Doctor of Medicine (MD)

What you’ll need to get in:
- 50+ in each section of the GAMSAT
- No GPA minimum for entry but a weighted GPA (wGPA) is used in the overall ranking for place offers (a Flinders equivalent GPA of 5.5 is considered competitive).
- Degrees from other Universities will have their GPA converted to a Flinders University GPA, which is then used to calculate the wGPA. This includes Honours, if applicable.
- A Bachelor degree or in the final year of a three year full-time equivalent (FTE) Bachelor degree.
- There is no “10 year rule” at Flinders. Applicants with a Bachelor degree older than 10 years can apply for MD.
- Postgraduate qualifications are not included in the wGPA calculation.

Stats
- Lowest cut-offs we’ve seen for 2023 entry:
- The lowest GAMSAT score was 60 and the lowest GPA was 5.7 (undifferentiated between Flinders and Non-Flinders candidates).
- For rural candidates, the lowest GAMSAT score was 59 and the lowest GPA was 4.99 (undifferentiated between Flinders and non-Flinders candidates).
How to apply:
- Apply directly online through the Flinders University Doctor of Medicine Admissions Portal.
- Flinders will handle the applications assessment process in collaboration with the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC).
- Up to 12 Northern Territory Government Bonded Medical places are currently being offered in Darwin.
- The Doctor of Medicine Rural Stream (MDRS) (previously the Parallel Rural Community Curriculum (PRCC)) sub-quota of up to 36 places is available annually for applicants from Australian rural communities who are able to demonstrate commitment to a career in rural practice.
- A minimum of 25% of total places are available for applicants that did not study at Flinders University under the Non Flinders University Graduates Sub Quota.
- A maximum of 75% of places are reserved for Flinders University Graduates under the Flinders University Graduates Sub Quota.
- A maximum of 30% of Flinders Graduates Places (approximately 22.5% of total places) are reserved for graduates of specific bachelor degrees under the Flinders University Graduates Reserved Sub-Quota. These degrees are:
- Bachelor of Medical Science
- Bachelor of Medical Science (Accelerated)
- Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours)
- Bachelor of Paramedic Science
- Bachelor of Public Health
- There is a Doctor of Medicine Rural Stream (MDRS) Sub-quota, whereby students are required to complete third year in a South Australian rural area. Applicants from rural backgrounds are preferenced first for this sub-quota, with non-rural applicants selected should there be spots available.
- The Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP) comprises 18 places that are fully sponsored (ie: no HECS debt is accrued) by the Northern Territory and Australian governments. There is a return of service requirement for graduates accepted under this scheme. Places for the NTMP are filled in the following priority order to applicants who pass the interview and are deemed eligible:
- Priority 1: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants who meet Northern Territory residency requirements.
- Priority 2: Non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants who meet Northern Territory residency requirements.
- Priority 3: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants who are not a Northern Territory resident.
- Priority 4: Non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants who are not a Northern Territory resident.
- A Northern Territory resident is a person who has resided in the Northern Territory for a total of at least two years out of the last six years, or has resided in the Northern Territory for a total of at least five years since commencing primary school.
Interviews:
- You will be ranked for interview based on your overall GAMSAT score. Applicants with a high GPA (number not specified) with an overall GAMSAT score slightly below that cut-off may be invited for an interview.
- Interviews will:
- be in semi-structured format with a common set of scenarios and questions for all applicants
- be conducted by a small panel that include medical school staff and a community member
- duration: approximately 45-50 mins
- Applicants who are interstate will be interviewed online through the WebEx platform. Applicants who reside in Adelaide and surrounding areas (SAMP applicants) or Darwin (NTMP applicants) will be interviewed in person.
Offers will be based on:
- A combination of GAMSAT Overall Score + weighted GPA + interview turned into a score out of 100, with cutoffs decided internally by the University. All three components have equal weight.
- There is a separate offer process for the sub-quotas, with different cutoffs as seen above.
Bonus points/Special Entry:
- Special consideration given to Indigenous, Rural applicants (minimum 28% of places) and Northern Territory residents.
- Up to 5 places are reserved for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders can directly apply via the Indigenous Entry Stream. Applicants who apply through this program do not need a GAMSAT score.
- There is also a sub-quota for Humanitarian Visa Holders (up to 4 places).
- Cut-off scores for the Northern Territory Medical Program and sub-quotas are slightly lower.
- Supporting documentation for all of the above pathways must be submitted no later than the 26th of June for Statutory declarations, and the 31st of July for other supporting documents/letters.

- Only Monash University graduates with a specified degree of min. 2 years will be accepted into the MD program. Allowable degrees are:
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science (including double degrees)
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)
- Bachelor of Science (including double degrees and dependent on the completion of designated units)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Gippsland Partnership Program) from Federation University
- Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70+
- Postgraduate marks are not taken into account.
- There are a total of 70 graduate entry places.

- WAM for 2023 entry was 82.386.

The Interview:
- Eligible applicants will be invited to attend an a Multiple Mini Interview (MMI). Invitations to participate in this process will be based on applicants’ Weighted Average Mark (WAM) across all units.
- Eligible international applicants will also be required to undertake an interview.
Offers will be based on:
- Academic Performance (40%) and Interview (60%) after final results have been released.
- At least 70% of places are reserved for students who have completed the full three-year Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Monash University.

What you’ll need to get in:

- For the purpose of admission to the MD or DMD in 2023, the scores for each section of the GAMSAT will be used to rank applicants; overall weighted or average GAMSAT scores will NOT be used
- Degrees older than 10 years will be recognised if there is evidence of completing a postgraduate degree or diploma within the past 10 years.
- No interviews this year.
- Personal statement for entry to the Dubbo stream.
- The MD curriculum was revised to include further clinical settings and preparation for practice. Assumed knowledge on entry to the MD program is in anatomy, physiology and molecular/cellular biology. Students entering the MD will have access to an online Foundation Knowledge Course, delivered by Sydney Medical School, which will teach you the required assumed knowledge once you’ve been offered a position. Stats
- Cutoffs for USYD work slightly differently than other universities, in that GPA is a qualifying hurdle (though can be used by admission team for ranking between two contending candidates if required), and they have a focus on sections 1 and 2 in the GAMSAT, as well as there is NO INTERVIEW.
- Use the following spreadsheet as indicator for cutoffs using a weighted score indicator (calculated as: 1 x S1 + 1 x S2 + 0.1 x S3)
How to apply:
- Domestic applicants must submit an online Qualifications Assessment Service (QAS) application to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). AND also submit an online application directly to the University of Sydney.
- If applicable, you must also complete an online confirmation page.
The Interview:
- No interviews this year
Offers will be based on:
- Applicants will be ranked on the basis of each section of the GAMSAT. Different ranked lists of applicants will be generated for each pathway.
- Anecdotally, it appears that Sections 1 and 2 were weighted more highly than Section 3 last year.
- Offers will be made in sequence commencing with the applicant with the highest ranked score based on preferences.
- The University reserves the right to ask some applicants to participate in further assessment using another selection tool (such as an interview or situational judgement test) or use a factor like GPA to differentiate potential candidates.

Applications for International Students will be announced at a later stage, but opened in July last year. International Students are required to register their details via the following link https://elq.utas.edu.au/BMed.
What you’ll need to get in:
- Completed a 3 year FTE bachelor degree or higher.
- GPA of at least a 6.5.
- 50 in each section of GAMSAT.
- Completed a degree or higher (honours, masters, pHD) within the past 10 years.
- International applicants may apply as as an undergraduate or postgraduate student. Exact admission requirements vary depending on the highest level of education provided.
- Degrees older than 10 years will not be recognised.
- No interviews.
- The degree is five years, instead of the usual four years for other medical programs.
Stats
The lowest GAMSAT score in 2024 was 57 (with a high GPA) and the lowest GPA was 6.5.
How to apply:
- Applications will be handled through University of Tasmania. More details on this will be announced later in the year.
- Places through the Bachelor of Medical Research preferred pathway are reserved for students who have completed the Bachelor of Medical Research at University of Tasmania. The GAMSAT and UCAT are not required if eligible for this pathway.
The Interview:
- No interviews for 2024, likely to be same for 2025 entry (TBA)
Offers will be based on:
- Applicants will be ranked by combining the overall GAMSAT score (50%) and unweighted GPA (50%).
Bonus points/Special Entry:
- Quota for Tasmanian residents.
- Quota for rural backgrounds.

- Places through the Bachelor of Medical Research preferred pathway are reserved for students who have completed the Bachelor of Medical Research at University of Tasmania. The GAMSAT and UCAT are not required if eligible for this pathway. A minimum cumulative percentage average score of 65% is required.

- Lowest cut-offs we’ve seen for 2023 entry:
- The lowest GAMSAT score was 55 and the lowest GPA was 5.7 (undifferentiated between Flinders and Non-Flinders candidates).
- For rural candidates, the lowest GAMSAT score was 59 and the lowest GPA was 4.99 (undifferentiated between Flinders and non-Flinders candidates).
How to apply:
- Apply directly online through the Flinders University Doctor of Medicine Admissions Portal.
- Flinders will handle the applications assessment process in collaboration with the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC).
- Up to 12 Northern Territory Government Bonded Medical places are currently being offered in Darwin.
- The Doctor of Medicine Rural Stream (MDRS) (previously the Parallel Rural Community Curriculum (PRCC)) sub-quota of up to 36 places is available annually for applicants from Australian rural communities who are able to demonstrate commitment to a career in rural practice.
- The 2023 intake was comprised of 73% Flinders University Graduates and 27% Non-Flinders University Graduates.
- A minimum of 25% of total places are available for applicants that did not study at Flinders University under the Non-Flinders University Graduates Sub-quota.
- A maximum of 75% of places are reserved for Flinders University Graduates under the Flinders University Graduates Sub-Quota.
- A maximum of 30% of Flinders Graduate Places (~22.5% of total places) are reserved for graduates of specific bachelor degrees under the Flinders University Graduates Reserved Sub-Quota. These degrees are:
Interviews:
- You will be ranked for interview based on your overall GAMSAT score. Applicants with a high GPA (number not specified) with an overall GAMSAT score slightly below that cut-off may be invited for an interview.
- Interviews will:
- be in semi-structured format with a common set of scenarios and questions for all applicants
- be conducted by a small panel that include medical school staff and a community member
- duration: approximately 45-50 mins
- Applicants who are interstate will be interviewed online through the WebEx platform. Applicants who reside in Adelaide and surrounding areas (SAMP applicants) or Darwin (NTMP applicants) will be interviewed in person.
Offers will be based on:
- A combination of GAMSAT Overall Score + weighted GPA + interview turned into a score out of 100, with cutoffs decided internally by the University. All three components have equal weight.
- There is a separate offer process for the sub-quotas, with different cutoffs as seen above.
Bonus points/Special Entry:
- Special consideration given to Indigenous, Rural applicants and Northern Territory residents.
- There is also a sub-quota for Humanitarian Visa Holders.
- Cut-off scores for the Northern Territory Medical Program and sub-quotas are slightly lower.
- Supporting documentation for all of the above pathways must be submitted no later than the 26th of June for Statutory declarations, and the 31st of July for other supporting documents/letters.

What you’ll need to get in:
- Only Monash University graduates with a specified degree of min. 2 years will be accepted into the MD program. Allowable degrees are:
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science (including double degrees)
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours)
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours)
- Bachelor of Science (including double degrees and dependent on the completion of designated units)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Gippsland Partnership Program) from Federation University
- Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 70+
- Postgraduate marks are not taken into account.
- There are a total of 73 graduate entry places.

What you’ll need to get in:
- Completed a 3 year FTE bachelor degree
- GPA of at least a 5 and 4.5 for rural applicants (includes Honours)
- GPA calculated by University Admission Centre (UAC) based on a 7-point numeric scale based on your grade. Click here for more information.

- For the purpose of admission to the MD or DMD in 2023, the scores for each section of the GAMSAT will be used to rank applicants; overall weighted or average GAMSAT scores will NOT be used
- Degrees older than 10 years will be recognised if there is evidence of completing a postgraduate degree or diploma within the past 10 years.

- Personal statement for entry to the Dubbo stream.
- The MD curriculum was revised to include further clinical settings and preparation for practice. Assumed knowledge on entry to the MD program is in anatomy, physiology and molecular/cellular biology. Students entering the MD will have access to an online Foundation Knowledge Course, delivered by Sydney Medical School, which will teach you the required assumed knowledge once you’ve been offered a position. - The University reserves the right to ask some applicants to participate in further assessment using another selection tool (such as an interview or situational judgement test) or use a factor like GPA to differentiate potential candidates.

Key Dates for 2024 Entry
Applications will open for Domestic Students in early August and close in Early September. More information can be obtained by contacting medicineadmissions@utas.edu.au.
Applications for International Students will open in July 2022. International Students are required to register their details via the following link https://elq.utas.edu.au/BMed.
What you’ll need to get in:
- Completed a 3 year FTE bachelor degree or higher.
- Unweighted GPA of at least a 6.5.
- 50 in each section of GAMSAT.
- Completed a degree or higher (honors, masters, pHD) within the past 10 years.
- International applicants may apply as as an undergraduate or postgraduate student. Exact admission requirements vary depending on the highest level of education provided.
- Degrees older than 10 years will not be recognised.
- No interviews.
- The degree is five years, instead of the usual four years for other medical programs.

- For 2023 entry, the lowest known GAMSAT for a rural student was 59 (with a high GAMSAT) while the lowest known GPA was 6.1 (but with a high GAMSAT).
How to apply:
- There are 26 places in total. Of these, 13 will be in the General Graduate Entry Pathway and the other 13 places will be in the Bachelor of Medical Research Preferred Entry Pathway.
- Applications will be handled through University of Tasmania. More details on this will be announced later in the year.
- Places through the Bachelor of Medical Research preferred pathway are reserved for students who have completed the Bachelor of Medical Research at University of Tasmania. The GAMSAT and UCAT are not required if eligible for this pathway. A minimum cumulative percentage average score of 65% is required.

Offers will be based on:
- Applicants will be ranked by combining the overall GAMSAT score (50%) and unweighted GPA (50%).

- A completed Masters by Research is awarded 0.2 bonus points to the overall GPA.
- A completed PhD is awarded a 0.4 point bonus to the overall GPA.
